Costume Design

Costume design is my passion. I love theater and film and was always interested in the behind-the-scenes work, especially how costume designers use masterful storytelling through their designs. In recent years, I have had the privilege of designing costumes for two musicals with the Summer Stock Community Theater and am currently employed at the Fisher Theater in the costume department as a costume shop assistant. Since obtaining the position in the fall of 2025, I have contributed to several productions, my favorite being *Urinetown*, for which I was tasked with creating a 1930s evening gown with gold piping for the character Ms. Millenium. As of January 2026, I am actively seeking an opportunity to serve as the head costume designer for another production.

I worked on the Mamma Mia musical in the summer of 2024 for a community theater called Summer Stock based in MN. It was a whirlwind of an experience, with only a couple of months to dress a cast of 33 and manage over 100 costumes on a limited budget and crew. I made it work by using pieces from my own closet, the local high school’s costume collection, and custom looks I created myself. My vision for the show was to capture a 70s vibe, with vintage clothing and silhouettes that paid homage to ABBA, the music group that inspired the production. With a small crew, I handled backstage costume changes, washing and pressing, hemming, organizing, and fostering a positive atmosphere for everyone involved. A huge thank-you to the wonderful costume crew—Leslie Switala, Sonyia, Grace Smith, and Mya—I couldn’t have done it without you!

        Spring Awakening
                       2023

This production holds a special place in my heart as it was the first show I designed costumes for, completed during the summer of 2023. The process was demanding, as I was the sole costume designer and had to manage my time efficiently to complete all tasks within just a couple of months. Set in 1891 Germany, the story featured adolescent characters, making it challenging to find accurate period references for that specific age group. I drew much of my inspiration for the school outfits from Anne of Green Gables and repurposed numerous vintage 1970s dresses with Edwardian influences. To create schoolboy shorts, I tailored multiple pairs of black dress pants, and a significant portion of my modest budget went toward acquiring countless pairs of long black socks. Several pieces required custom work, including a rip-apart bodice, a young girl’s dress for Wendla, and an Edwardian-style skirt for a woman. To avoid additional fabric costs, I utilized thrifted bed sheets, curtains, and tablecloths. Despite the stress, the experience was invaluable, offering me the opportunity to develop my skills, and I now look back on it with great fondness.
